MISSION, VALUE & BELIEFS

Our mission

We are an intergenerational church committed to love God, love others, and serve the world. Together, we are called to join in God’s mission of reconciling all things back to him and raise up a new generation of leaders to love, serve, and know Jesus. We believe being a missional community is not merely something we are called to do, rather it is who we are called to be.

Our values

Love god

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Matthew 22:37

Love others

And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:39

serve the world

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25:40

Our beliefs

The Trinity

We believe in the Triune God (Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
• The Father, Creator of all that exists (Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 11:3);
• Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over sin, death, and the devil (1Timothy 1:15, 1 John 2:2)
• The Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and the Sacraments (1Corinthians 12:3, John 3:5)

Faith

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him (Ephesians 2:8, John 3:16)

Grace

God loves all people, even though sinful, rebellious, and undeserving of His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly (Romans 5:6, Titus 3:4-7)

christ

There is by no other name or way where sins can be forgiven, our relationship with God restored, and eternal life given other than Jesus Christ alone (John 14:6, Acts 4:12, John 3:36).

scripture

The Bible is God’s inspired and flawless Word; it reveals both law and gospel; it points us to the only Savior of the world —Jesus Christ—and is the sole rule, norm, and authority for Christian life. We believe the Word of God— the Word (Jesus Christ), the proclaimed Word (the Gospel), and the Written Word (the Bible)—is the source and authority for our life of faith (Romans 10:17, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16).

denomination & affiliation

We are Lutheran and affiliated with the LCMC (Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ) and NALC (North American Lutheran Church). It is a privilege to proclaim the grace and truth of Jesus Christ in a world that is grace starved. Most importantly, we are a Christian Church assembled to worship and follow Jesus Christ.

new to community of faith?

here's what to expect

Expect a welcome vibe. In person worship at the Corner has an inviting feel — right from the time you enter the Historical Willamette neighborhood! The Corner is located on the corner of Willamette Falls Drive and 12th St (hence its name). Restaurants abound with the Fire and Police station and the neighborhood elementary school practically next door. We are truly a neighborhood church that serves the Love of God while others serve hamburgers. Several first time visitors starting coming to Community of Faith after passing our storefront windows on their way to lunch or dinner. In fact, we encourage those who attend to also visit one of the many great restaurants that are only steps away.
Expect a casual and friendly atmosphere. We are not an uptight bunch and there is no expectation to formal attire. Come as you are and expect to experience the grace, peace and joy of Jesus Christ through Bible teaching and worship.
Expect an intergenerational mix. We have young, old and everywhere in-between. We value being a church for all ages experiencing God together. Though we do provide classes and childcare (once covid subsides), we love to see the whole family of God worshiping together.
In terms of worship style, expect a vibrant mix. We blend power ballets, traditional gospel, contemporary songs, beautiful instrumentals, old classic hymns, special music, ensembles and children’s choirs to round out an inspirational mix to glorify the Lord.
Expect Christ-glorifying, Bible-centered, Spirit-driven preaching and teaching. We invite you to bring your Bibles so we can experience the love of Christ together though Word and Sacrament. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first and third Sunday at 9:00am and 10:30am. Expect grace. We hope you may experience power and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ every time you time you come — and we hope to see you soon!

We hope you will come and visit us soon!
